How to Draw a Sailing Ship: Easy Step-by-Step Drawing Tutorial for Kids
Let’s draw something that sails the seven seas! In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to draw a beautiful sailing ship with billowing sails step-by-step in 9 simple, easy-to-follow steps.
Notice how we build the ship piece by piece — hull, mast, and sails — so you never have to erase any messy construction shapes! Keep an eye out for tiny sea creatures swimming near your ship, like the one in our Seahorse tutorial.

Step-by-Step Easy Sailing Ship Tutorial
Start by drawing a long, curved crescent shape for the hull (the bottom of the boat).

Draw a horizontal line across the top of the hull for the deck where the sailors walk.

Draw a tall, straight vertical line in the center of the deck for the main mast.

Draw a large triangle sail on the left side of the mast, stretching from the top down to the deck.

Draw a second triangle sail on the right side of the mast to catch more wind!

Draw a small flag or pennant fluttering at the very top of the mast.

Draw several small circles along the side of the hull for the portholes (round windows).

Draw some wavy lines beneath the hull to show the ocean waves!

Color the hull a rich brown, the sails bright white, the flag blue, and the water a beautiful ocean blue! Ahoy!

Triangle Sails: Keep both sails the same height along the mast so the ship looks balanced and ready to catch the wind evenly.
Wavy Water: Short, repeated wavy lines beneath the hull read as ocean waves better than one long wobbly line.
