How to Draw Sonic: Easy Step-by-Step Drawing Tutorial for Kids

Gotta go fast! Today, we are going to learn how to draw everyone’s favorite speedy blue hedgehog: Sonic! In this fun and super easy tutorial, we will break down Sonic’s face into very simple geometric shapes. By using the grid method, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can draw him.

Because Sonic is a hedgehog (which is an animal!), he fits right in with our animal drawing tutorials. We will start with a basic circle, add some spiked quills, and draw his famous big eyes. This cartoon style is specifically designed for kids and beginners.

Draw a Circle

Start by drawing a large circle perfectly in the center of your paper grid. This is going to be the base shape for Sonic’s big head!

Add Ears & Muzzle

At the top of the head, draw two small circles for his ears (with smaller circles inside). At the very bottom of the big circle, draw a small, wide oval for his nose/muzzle area.

Add Cheeks & Quills

Draw two round circles on the sides of his muzzle for his cheeks. Then, draw two large, curved triangle shapes pointing downwards on the sides of his head for his famous spiky quills!

Shape the Quills

Add a third large, curved triangle spike right at the top of his head between his ears. Now Sonic has his classic spiky hedgehog hair!

Define the Eyebrow Ridge

Sonic has a very unique eye shape! Draw two large arches connected in the middle (like a capital ‘M’) right above his muzzle. This creates his brow ridge.

Draw the Big Eyes

Inside the arches you just drew, add two tall, skinny ovals for his eyes. Also, add a small oval on top of his muzzle for his shiny black nose.

Add Nose and Smile

Connect the cheek circles to the muzzle to make one big peach-colored face area. Then, draw a cool, confident little smirk on the side of his mouth!

Finalize the Lines

Take a bold black marker and trace over all your final pencil lines. Add a small circle inside each eye for the green iris. Erase any extra pencil marks!

Color it all in!

Grab your crayons! Color Sonic’s spikes and head a bright, speedy blue. Color his muzzle, inner ears, and cheeks a peach or light tan color. Finally, color his irises bright green and his nose black. You drew Sonic!
